Big Muddy River near Plumfield affecting Williamson and Franklin Counties. .Heavy rainfall has ended across the area. The Big Muddy River is continuing to rise and crests are expected over the next week. For the Big Muddy River...including Plumfield, Murphysboro...Major flooding is forecast. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Caution is urged when walking near riverbanks. Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive cars through flooded areas. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Low-water crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 613 PM CDT, Even though the heavy rain has ended, substantial flooding continues across much of the warned area. Between 5 and 9 inches of rain have fallen since the start of the event on Wednesday.
