WSIL(Carterville, Ill.)-- This morning, most of us are waking up to temperatures in the mid 70s with mostly sunny skies.Â
Today, we are going to see the hottest temperatures that we have seen so far this year. As early as 8 AM, we could see temperatures in the low to mid 80s with heat index values in the low 90s. Skies will be partly cloudy.Â
At noon today, a heat advisory goes into effect and will be in place until 8:00PM today. Within this advisory we could see heat index values at or above 105 degrees.Â
Highs this afternoon will be in the mid to upper 90s for most of us. There is a chance that some locations could see 100 degrees on the thermometer, especially in southeastern Missouri. But, this will only happen if we can get enough sun to poke through.
Heat index values by 2PM this afternoon will likely be over 105 degrees for most of us.
Skies will continue to be mostly sunny to partly cloudy this afternoon. With the heating of the day, we could see a few isolated showers and storms form. For these storms, there is a level 2 out of 5 severe weather risk, mainly for areas north of state route 13. The main hazards with these storms would be damaging winds and small hail.
Better storm chances will arrive after midnight. These storms will be associated with a cold front, and a few of these storms could be on the strong side, with the main hazard being damaging winds. They will track from north to south, and move out of the region by midday hours tomorrow.Â
Behind the cold front, highs tomorrow will be in the mid 80s. The upper 80s and 90s will return for Thursday and Friday.Â
