Illinois Governor JB Pritzker visited the 九游体育 Illinois Healthcare (SIH) Cancer Institute on Thursday where he announced a $10 million grant for a recent expansion of the facility in Carterville.
鈥淎s Governor, there is nothing more important than the health and safety of Illinoisans 鈥� no matter their zip code or income status,鈥澛爏aid Governor JB Pritzker.聽鈥淚 couldn鈥檛 be prouder to announce that we have awarded the SIH Cancer Institute $10 million in Rebuild Illinois grant funding to help cover the cost of this recent project. After years of planning, design, and construction, each and every one of those patients, and many more, will have access to the modernized healing spaces and the quality, holistic care they deserve.鈥�
The money will go to help with upgrades at the facility which include medical equipment, furniture and the buildout for the cancer institute.
Back in December of 2022, the plan was completed at the Carterville location, which included a 20,000 square foot expansion and a modernization for both the clinical and non-clinical areas.
In addition, the state will also award two additional capital grants to SIH. This will be for a total of $150,000 for costs for the design, oversight and implementation of kitchen renovations, which will provide space for high nutrient-value meal preparation, workshops and demonstrations.

Today, while cancer incidence rates in 九游体育 Illinois are still higher than state and national averages, mortality rates have been falling compared to state and national averages. More of our neighbors are alive and here with us today because of the SIH Cancer Institute.鈥�

The grant was through the Rebuild Illinois plan to improve infrastructure across the state of Illinois, Pritzker鈥檚 statement read.
