BENTON, Ill. -- A 40-year-old man is behind bars after authorities found him in a wooded area after responding to a call for help from a female in her home. He now faces multiple felony charges.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office said it first happened on November 18 at around 5 p.m. A deputy was trying to pull over a red motorcycle along Highway 37 near Mallard Lane just north of Benton.

Police said after activating the emergency lights, the suspect sped away at a high speed. This started a pursuit, however, the deputy lost sight of the motorcycle driver due to the high speed.

Moments later, the deputy was on Benton Camp Road and found the motorcycle lying in the road. They searched for the driver but couldn't find anyone.

On November 19, during the evening hours, someone called 911 for help on Benton Camp Road. Police said the person who called 911 said she was held against her will by a male who had been living inside the home.

Deputies quickly arrived at the home and went inside and found the female caller. She then told them the man left the home and went through a wooded area.

Police said this man was suspected as the driver of the motorcycle from the night before.

The Franklin County Emergency Management Agency came out to help with an infrared equipped drone to search for the man.

Minutes later, the drone found a heat signature in the wooded area near the home. That's when multiple law enforcement agencies and a K9 officer went in and found the man and took him in custody.

The suspect was identified as Charles A. King, 40 of Granite City. He was then charged with aggravated assault, aggravated unlawful restraint, aggravated fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer. He was also cited for driving with a suspended/revoked license, improper passing on the shoulder, speeding 35 mph or over and violation of license classification.

King was taken to the Franklin County Jail.

Assisting in the investigation was the Franklin County EMA, Benton Police Department, Illinois State Police and K9 Riot with Franklin County Sheriff's Office.
