Authorities Looking For Vehicle After Deadly Crash in Southern Illinois

BLUFORD, Ill. -- Authorities are looking for information on a vehicle involved in a crash which left one person dead in southern Illinois.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said they were called in for a crash report on Sunday night around 8:45 p.m.

First responders headed to the scene at the intersection of N. Markham Lane and E. Short Street in Bluford.

A 2018 Chevy SUV was going north on N. Markham Lane and collided with a Kawasaki ATV which was turning west on E. Short Street, the sheriff’s office noted.

The driver of the ATV was reportedly ejected from the vehicle. A short time later, another vehicle struck the driver of the ATV in the roadway, according to a report from the sheriff’s office.

The ATV driver was identified as Daniel W. Montgomery, 34 of Bonnie. Montgomery was declared dead at the scene by Jefferson County Coroner Roger Hayse.

Authorities are looking for the third vehicle. Witnesses described the vehicle as a dark Sedan which was driving south of N. Markham Lane and continued south out of the area.

The sheriff's office is urging anyone with information with identifying the dark Sedan to contact the Sheriff's Office Detective Division at (618)244-8004 or Crimestoppers at (618)242-8477 (TIPS).
