SEMO signing with Cape Central School

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- Cape Girardeau Public School employees will soon have increased access to SEMO's resources through an exclusive partnership between the two schools.

SEMO and Cape Schools signed the agreement on Thursday to give staff and teachers in Cape Girardeau greater access to SEMO's educational programs, cultural arts, athletics and recitational activities.

Cape Girardeau Schools will now exclusively promote SEMO as the best school for continued education. Educators and staff will have the chance to receive discounts for online degree programs through SEMO.

"SEMO values its partnerships with our local school district immensely for the work they do in preparing students for their futures," said SEMO President Dr. Carlos Vargas. "We are pleased to build a community of lifelong learners and serve as the exclusive partner for the employees of Cape Public Schools to further their education."

Cape Public Schools says the educational standard SEMO meets made it easy for the district to pursue a partnership with the university.

"We approached SEMO about a partnership because we believe deeply in the quality of the University's educational offerings," said Cape Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Howard Benyon. "We feel confident in promoting a SEMO education to our faculty and staff and know that education will benefit the District and our students."

The partnership benefits will become available to Cape employees starting this semester, which starts on Aug. 19.

SEMO was ranked in the top 10% of online programs according to U.S. News & World Report. The college's master's in education was one of the programs specifically highlighted.

Through the partnership, staff will also have access to exclusive discounts for River Campus events and memberships to SEMO's Recreation Center.
