Herrin Woman Dead After Pedestrian vs Vehicle Crash in Williamson County

LAKE OF EGYPT, Ill. (WSIL) � Authorities are investigating a deadly crash between a pedestrian and a vehicle on Saturday night.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office said the incident happened on September 14 in the area of the 12000-block of Lake of Egypt Road.

Deputies went to the scene at 11:34 p.m. The sheriff’s office said the pedestrian involved in the crash was Jana M. Lence from Herrin, who was hit by a passing vehicle while she was trying to cross the street.

Lence was then picked up by EMS and later died, the sheriff’s office reported.

The sheriff’s office then described the driver of the vehicle involved as a 17-year-old male who was traveling home after work. Authorities said deputies didn’t see any signs of impairment with the 17-year-old, however, a drug and alcohol screening was voluntarily submitted and will be screened at a local hospital.

The Illinois State Police Accident Reconstruction Team is assisting.

The incident is still being investigated.
