ELDORADO, Ill. -- The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) has sent a statement to News 3 in regards to the incident that took place on the basketball court between Eldorado and Hamilton County on December 28.

It comes after a viral video from the week of Christmas showing an Eldorado basketball player elbow an opponent.

IHSA issued the statement on January 3, the day after the Eldorado Community Unit #4 School District held a special board meeting and terminated their basketball coaching staff members.

The recent incident on the court spurred many in the community to demand action to be taken on Eldorado coaching staff members. Many members of the public were at the special board meeting to hear the decision from the board.

Additionally, the board hired an interim coach as well during the meeting.

The statement from the Illinois High School Association is as follows...

“The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) has been in communication with the Eldorado High School administration over the past few days. The school is taking internal steps to address the incident that occurred during its varsity boys basketball contest against Hamilton County High School on December 28. The school plans to present their recommended action to the IHSA, at which point the IHSA will review and determine if additional consequences are warranted.

On Wednesday night, the Eldorado High School postponed their boys basketball game against Carmi, which was scheduled for Friday. They also added the game will be rescheduled for a later date.

Earlier in the week, Eldorado cancelled their boys basketball game against Mt. Carmel.
