...FLOOD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT THIS EVENING...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.

* WHERE...A portion of southern Illinois, including the following
counties, Franklin, Hamilton, Jackson, Jefferson, Johnson, Perry,
Pulaski, Union, Wayne and Williamson.

* WHEN...Until 700 PM CDT Sunday.

* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying
and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Low-water
crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 817 AM CDT, Even though the heavy rain has ended,
substantial flooding continues across much of the warned
area. Between 5 and 9 inches of rain have fallen since the
start of the event on Wednesday. Additional light rainfall
amounts up to one tenth of an inch are possible in the warned
area.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Carbondale, Marion, Mount Vernon, Herrin, West Frankfort,
Murphysboro, Benton, Du Quoin, Pinckneyville, Carterville,
Fairfield, Anna, Johnston City, Mcleansboro, Christopher,
Jonesboro, Vienna, Rend Lake Area, Sesser and Zeigler.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.

...FREEZE WATCH IN EFFECT FROM LATE MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY
MORNING...

* WHAT...Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 25 to 30 degrees
possible. Everyone should see a 32 degree low or close to it.

* WHERE...All of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western
Kentucky, and southeast Missouri.

* WHEN...From late Monday night through Tuesday morning.

* IMPACTS...Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other
sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor
plumbing.

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold.

...The Flood Warning is extended for the following rivers in
Illinois...

Big Muddy River near Plumfield affecting Franklin and Williamson
Counties.

.One more round of moderate rainfall is expected today before we
begin to dry out. The Big Muddy River will rise above flood stage
this afternoon and crest next week.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Caution is urged when walking near riverbanks.

Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive
cars through flooded areas.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

NOTICE...

* WHAT...Moderate flooding is forecast.

* WHERE...Big Muddy River near Plumfield.

* WHEN...From this afternoon until further notice.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 10:00 AM CDT Saturday the stage was 18.1 feet.
- Forecast...The river will rise above flood stage this
afternoon to 28.5 feet early Monday morning. It will then
fall Tuesday evening. It will rise to 28.1 feet early
Wednesday afternoon. It will then fall again but remain above
flood stage.
- Flood stage is 20.0 feet.
- Flood History...This crest compares to a previous crest of
28.6 feet on 05/02/2017.

Missouri man arrested on alleged robbery

DEXTER, Mo. -- Police took a man into custody on Tuesday after an alleged robbery at a convenience store. 

The Dexter Police Department sent officers to Break Time Convenience Store at about 12:21 a.m. on Monday, June 18. The store at 302 W. Business Highway 60 had called about the attempted crime. 

Officers learned that a white male around 6 feet tall supposedly pulled an item the worker assumed was a gun on her and tried to take money. The employee said she was able to kick the suspect out without giving away any money. 

Officers reviewed the footage from the event. Samuel Kilbreth, 26, of Puxico, Mo., was seen in blue jeans, a red sweatshirt and a cap.

Officers "later" were able to take Kilbreth into custody in Puxico on a Probation and Parole Warrant. Investigators say they discovered physical evidence during a search of the residence. 

Kilbreth received the following charges from Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney Sawyer Smith on Tuesday, June 18:

  • Class B Felony of Attempted Robbery
  • Unclassified Felony of Armed Criminal Action
  • Class D Felony of Assault
  • Class D Felony of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm
  • Class E Felony of Tampering with Physical Evidence in a Felony Prosecution
  • Class E Felony of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Subsection 4-Exhibiting

Kilbreth was taken to the Stoddard County Jail.

Missouri Probation and Parole, Puxico Police Department and the Stoddard County Sheriff's Office aided in the investigation.
