MOUNT VERNON, Ill. -- A man was arrested on Thursday after police obtained a search warrant for his house.Â
Dequan J. Hopkins, 28, was sought after from police for alleged possession and sale of illegal narcotics. The Mt. Vernon Police Department teamed up with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department's Narcotics Division to obtain the warrant and enter the house.Â
Police entered Hopkins' house just after noon on Thursday. Inside, officers said they found crack cocaine with a gun and ammunition.Â
Officials arrested Hopkins and sent him to the Jefferson County Justice Center. He received the following charges:Â
- Armed Habitual Offender
- Possession of a Firearm by a Person on Parole
- Possession of a Controlled Substance
Police noted that Hopkins was on parole during this arrest for a 2015 Second Degree Murder charge. Officials notified the Illinois Department of Corrections. Hopkins received another warrant Parole Violation.Â
Police remind the community Hopkins is innocent until proved guilty in court.Â
