Murphysboro wants in on Home Town Takeover

MT. VERNON, Ill. -- Murphysboro has applied to give funding to low-income homeowners.

According to Mayor Will Stephens, Murphysboro hopes to receive the Housing Rehabilitation Grant to help residents fix up their homes. Stephens suggests some of the covered work include roofing, windows, doors, electrical, heating/cooling and flooring.

Those who meet the following breakdowns would qualify for the funding should Murphysboro achieve the grant:

  • 1 person -- $45,600
  • 2 people -- $52,100
  • 3 people -- $58,600
  • 4 people -- $65,100
  • 5 people -- $70,350
  • 6 people -- $74,550
  • 7 people -- $80,750
  • 8 people -- $85,950

Stephens pointed out that trailers with underpinning and/or including privilege tax would not qualify for funding.

The city's receival of the grant depends on community interest. Those who feel they could use the extra help should fill out a feedback form at the Daum Building at 1101 Walnut Street.

Questions surrounding the funding or process can DM Mayor Stephens or call PSC Engineers at 618-985-6370.
