GOREVILLE, Ill. -- An EF-3 tornado hit Johnson County on Sunday, according to preliminary results from the National Weather Service (NWS).
The NWS sent out a survey crew to southern Illinois on Monday morning. There they investigated the area and found evidence which they feel supports the EF-3 tornado status.
Survey crews were near the Lake of Egypt area in northern Johnson County where they determined the tornado had peak winds of 150 mph.
There is one reported injury associated with the tornado.
The path length of this tornado was 5.1 miles, with a max width of 300 yards.

Summary: An EF-3 tornado began north of Goreville, IL, where a security camera at a house on Newton Lane captured the tornado鈥檚 formation. Crossing I-57, the tornado snapped large tree limbs and damaged an outbuilding on Pulley鈥檚 Mill Lane. The tornado was again filmed crossing I-24 northeast of Goreville.
Along Illinois Highway 37, the tornado did roof damage to two homes and snapped a few wooden power poles. Nearby trees suffered extreme damage, with debarking noted on a few trees near the intersection of Highway 37 and Orchard Lane, along with numerous large trees snapped. To the east on Orchard Lane, a home suffered a direct hit by the tornado, with the roof being removed and most of the exterior walls collapsed. A nearby outbuilding was also destroyed, along with several large snapped trees.
As the tornado approached the Eagle Point Bay subdivision on Lake of Egypt, it snapped several large trees and wooden telephone poles on Deaton Road and Greentree Drive. Two manufactured homes were severely damaged or destroyed. One resident here suffered broken bone injuries. Another house had its roof uplifted slightly and was slightly moved on its foundation.
Continuing east-southeast into the Eagle Point Bay subdivision, the tornado weakened then dissipated, doing mainly tree damage and minor roof damage to homes along and near John Able Drive and Thunderhead Drive.
On Tuesday, the National Weather Service conducted a survey on a storm in Graves County. This was rated an EF-1 with a five mile track and 70 to 80 mph straight line winds in Mayfield.
