BENTON, Ill. -- Rend Lake Dam Road will close starting Wednesday to allow construction on the Dam.Â
The closure begins Wednesday at 7:00 a.m. and will remain until mid-summer. Crews will work on the spillway bridge during this time. Officials are hoping this timeframe will prevent effects to the peak-tourism season.
Crews will use this time to install traffic barrier terminals, steel bridge railing, and concrete curbs. They will also deep clean the steel.Â
Drivers may still get to nearby recreational areas by taking Mine 24 or Licata roads. The Visitor Center and office of the Rend Lake Project may be visited by driving along Route 14 or Highway 154. Signs will be posted marking these detours.Â
The project received funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure law.Â
