Rivers rise after recent rainfall

Mississippi River

PADUCAH, Ky. (WSIL) -- The drought the region has experienced recently should be better after the area received a significant amount of rainfall over the course of the past several days.

This includes river level increases in both the Mississippi and Ohio rivers in our region. Other rivers also saw water level increases as well, including the Big Muddy River.

Here is a list of river levels throughout the region as of September 29, at 10 a.m. according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration...

Mississippi River

  • Chester: 6.29 feet
  • Cape Girardeau: 13.25 feet
  • Thebes: 12.2 feet
  • Hickman: 13.56 feet (+15 feet since last week)
  • New Madrid: 9.1 feet (+13 feet since last week)
  • Tiptonville: 12.53 feet (+12 feet since last week)
  • Caruthersville: 9.82 feet (+10 feet since last week)

Ohio River

  • Shawneetown: 16.73 feet (+2 feet since last week)
  • Golconda: 29.85 feet (Roughly even since last week)
  • Paducah: 17.59 feet (+1.5 feet since last week)
  • Cairo: 21.18 feet (+14 feet since last week)

Big Muddy

  • Plumfield: 12.59 feet (+8 feet since last week)
  • Murphysboro: 12.46 feet (+8 feet since last week)
