USGS records tremor after local mine collapse

Mine collapse causes tremor

A Wilber 3, Waverly, Tennessee, station recorded a seismograph reading.

BURNA, Ky. (WSIL) -- The United State Geological Survey (USGS) recorded some shaking after they reported a mine collapsed recently.

The USGS stated a 2.3 magnitude tremor was the result from a mine collapse in Livingston County, Kentucky.

This happened just about two-and-a-half miles south-southwest of Burna, Kentucky on December 19 at 3:12 a.m.

The depth of the tremor was recorded at around five miles.

The USGS stated there were six people who reported they felt the shaking. This includes responses from the following areas...

  • Smithland, Kentucky at 4.34 miles away
  • Burna, Kentcuky at 5 miles away
  • Golconda, Illinois at 13 miles away
  • Benton, Kentucky at 24 miles away
  • Dale, Illinois at 54 miles away
  • Georgetown, Kentucky at 221 miles away
