DOHA, Qatar â€� Two former ¾ÅÓÎÌåÓý Illinois University athletes will compete at the 2019 IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar from Sept. 27-28 at Khalifa International Stadium. DeAnna Price and Gwen Berry will represent Team USA in the hammer toss while competing for a chance to become a World Champion.

Berry, a 2011 SIU graduate, will throw the hammer at 4:40 p.m. CST in qualifying group A. She qualified for the meet after throwing 250â€�-10" (76.46m) at the 2019 USATF Outdoor Championships on July 29. She is appearing in her third world championship, adding to her decorated career that includes a trip to the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.Ìý

Price, a 2016 SIU graduate, will compete in the hammer throw at 6:10 p.m. in qualifying group B. The Moscow Mills, Mo. native qualified for the meet after throwing the fourth-longest toss in women’s hammer throw history (256â€�-8" [78.24m]) at the 2019 USATF Outdoor Championship. Price’s decorated career includes being a two-time NCAA champion in the hammer throw, owning the U.S. hammer throw record and being a 2016 Olympian.ÌýÌý

J.C. Lambert, SIU’s throws coach, will travel to Qatar and serve as a coach to Price. Lambert, one of the NCAA’s premier throws coaches, is entering his fifth season at SIU after graduating from the school in 2013. During his career as a Saluki, Lambert earned second place at the 2012 NCAA Indoor Championships and currently owns the school record in the 35-lb indoor weight throw with a mark of 74â€�-04".5 (22.67m).ÌýÌý

The automatic qualifying mark for the IAAF World Championships hammer throw is set at 72.00m, with at least the 12 best performers advancing to the Finals on Saturday, Sept. 28 beginning at 7:25 p.m. CST.Ìý
