WILLIAMSON COUNTY (WSIL) -- A local woman's 10-year-old daughter's dream to ride a bike with family came true, thanks to a local business.
The owners and crew of gave their time and skills to make sure Kendreona Buchanan could go on bike rides. The business is located in Marion at 501 N. Walker Street. It is a metal fabrication shop that makes signs and fixes anything metal that is broken.
"It was meant to be. I feel like God lead us to them," said Kendreona's mom, Chris Scott.
She said Kendreona has a rare condition called beta-mannosidosis. Beta-mannosidosis is an inherited disorder that affects the way certain sugar molecules are processed in the body. It also causes her to have leukodystrophies. Leukodystrophies are a group of rare genetic disorders that affect the white matter of the brain. It can cause problems with movement, speaking, vision, hearing, and mental and physical development.
Chris said because of this, Kendreona was unable to ride a bike. She and her two grandsons like to ride regularly, and she wanted to find a way her daughter could be part of the family activity.
Chris was able to find a tricycle. She then called 618 Metal Fab, hoping to find a way to get a seat put on the tricycle. After speaking with the owner, Gabby Cutsinger, Gabby picked up the bike, and her crew added a seat. They also powder-coated it and personalized it.
When Chris asked her how much she owed, "she told me nothing, and so Gabby is my Unsung Hero because she provided us with a seat for my daughter, who can be buckled in. We can all go for bike rides together," added Chris.
Chris said they enjoy it so much they have been on six-mile bike rides together.
"I feel like we have not only been blessed with a bike but blessed with new friends as well," said Chris.
Gabby said Kendreona stole her heart from the moment she met her, so she knew she had to do something.
"I just wanted to see Kendreona happy and be able to go on bike rides with her family and be included, and it just melted my heart, and I would do it again if I had to," said Gabby.
Gabby said it touches her heart to able to help solve a problem for someone. She said she is also happy to help a family make happy memories.
Kendreona turn will turn 11 years old on November 19.
