GOREVILLE, IL (WSIL) - Goreville's Jordan Davidson is a name many know across the region.
Goreville's Jordan Davidson honored and remembered by fourth straight co-ed softball tournament
More than 3 years ago, Davidson was one of 3 teens killed in a tragic car wreck in Johnson County. Since his passing, his family has honored him with an annual co-ed softball game.
This year's event occurred on Thursday and marked the third year the family gathered for the game. Friends and family showed up in Jordan's honor to support the Long Live Jordan Davidson Foundation. This softball game has turned into a day of celebration for Davidson's family and friends.
"We come together because of how important it is to stay together and be there for one another. That's what Jordan is all about," said Davidson's mother, Amanda Davidson.
Jordan was a four-sport athlete in high school. He pitched for the Blackcats, ran track and wrestled for them. He even played some football for Vienna.
Davidson's friends and family say he would have wanted an event just like this one in his honor.
Aiden Hurd, a friend of Jordan, said, "He would be very happy that we are keeping his memory alive."
"He would be real happy knowing that everybody came to support him and knowing that everybody loves him and supports him and that we are here for him," said Davidson's friend Kaiden Russell.
"He would be very happy that we are keeping his memory alive," agreed another friend, Aiden Hurd.Â
A nearby playground was built by members of the community in Jordan's honor. The group will host a ribbon cutting for the grounds May 25 at 1:00 p.m. at the Goreville City Park. The grounds will have a plaque dedicating it to Jordan.Â
