MARION The Marion Wildcats continued their hot start to the season with a 4-0 shutout of Carbondale Thursday.
Blake Clark scored twice in the first half as Marion led 2-0 at half. Nicole Szidik nearly gave the Wildcats a 3-0 lead when she launched a long shot trying to beat the buzzer. The ball went in the goal, but the referees ruled the ball did not cross the goal line before the horn sounded, so the goal was waved off.
Undeterred, the Wildcats added a pair of goals in a 1:41 span early in the second half. Marissa Basi’s beautiful feed set up Margaux Bruce for a goal to make it 3-0. Lily Garrett followed with another laser to push the lead to 4-0.
With the win, Marion improves to 8-1. Carbondale falls to 1-7.
