WSIL(Carterville, IL)-- Today, we are tracking the potential for active weather.聽 Our morning temperatures are in the low to mid 40s further towards the south and upper 30s in the northern parts of the area. How warm temperatures get this afternoon will determine whether or not we see more rain or snow.聽
A Winter Weather Advisory was issued last night including parts of southeastern Missouri and southern Illinois. This morning, we have seen an expansion in the Winter Weather Advisory to include all of Western Kentucky, most of Southeastern Missouri, and Southern Illinois. This advisory goes into effect at noon today and lasts until midnight Monday night going into Tuesday.聽聽
Within this advisory, we could see 1-2" of accumulating snow. However, not everyone will see 2" of snow, or even a dusting. This is because there is quite a bit of variability in the forecast. If we see temperatures dip into the 30s this afternoon, we will see more snow.
However, the more recent trends in the models have been to keep warmer temperatures, mainly in the low 40s, and more rain across our region and keep the colder weather further to the south. But, we certainly could see a shift still.聽
Whatever does fall this afternoon will not be lasting too long as temperatures will be in the low 50s for highs tomorrow and mid to upper 50s for highs by late week. We are also tracking quite a bit of dry time this week.聽
