CARTERVILLE, Ill. -- The storm prediction center has most of our southern Illinois counties in a Level 3 Enhanced Risk for severe weather this afternoon and evening on June 30.

The main hazards today will be the potential for damaging straight-line winds in excess of 70 miles per hour as well as the potential for torrential rainfall, and flash flooding. Small hail is also possible.

There is a small chance of a brief spin-up tornado. However, the risk is very low for this afternoon, but not entirely zero. If we do see one, it should be short lived and weak.

Isolated thunderstorms may develop across the area later this afternoon after 3 p.m., and these could be on the strong side, but the best chance for strong to severe storms will arrive later this evening associated with a line of showers and storms.

These will start to enter the region as early as 6 p.m. and will track from northwest to southeast. We should see these storms exit the region late this evening, likely after 10 p.m.
