PERRY COUNTY, IL (WSIL) -- The Dog Days of Summer are here and for those looking for a little get away, Pinckneyville invites them to town for a Stay-Cation.

Pinckneyville Chamber of Commerce is partnering with local businesses for a weekend of fun and food right here "at home." Organizers tell News 3 it is a great way to shop local and discover what the 'Ville has to offer.

Daveli Farms Natural Food Market is one of those new businesses. They cut the ribbon on their new location downtown Pinckneyville Thursday afternoon, offering choices of locally-raised meats and vegetables, says owner David Raines.

"It's a weight off our chest to be able to go into operational state," says Raines, adding it comes just in time to take part in the Chamber's Stay-Cation-In-The-Ville. "And to be able to at least get more exposure to the community that doesn't know we're here yet."

Chamber organizer Tara Conner says, "Stay-Cation in Pinckneyville means, why go on a vacation when you can 'stay' in the Ville, in Pinckneyville, and have a great time."

Businesses are hosting sales and giveaways, with more than 20 taking part in a Gift Basket giveaway. Brandon Ross, owner of The Twisted Vine says it is also a way for people to stay local, and celebrate what Pinckneyville has to offer.

"Showing our area that there are plenty of reasons to come to town, and stay in town, and still have a great weekend," explains Ross. The Twisted Vine is hosting comedian David Graham, a free show open to all. Ross says he expects to see another Stay-Cation event next year.

"It's already gearing up to be a great event," says Ross. "We've had good response so far and we just hope everyone comes out and enjoys their day here."

Stay-Cation-In-The-Ville is Saturday, July 24, starting in the morning. A sidewalk chalk contest is at the library starting at 11 and 'The Cutest Dog' contest starts at 1:30 in the grassy area next to the community center. Comedian David Graham is set to take the stage at 6 at .
