CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- Carbondale is joining a statewide campaign to boost shopping local.

"I Love Local" is an effort to drive traffic to local businesses by letting customers know they're open.

Using bright signs, cutouts and other decorations in windows, businesses can let their customers know that, while they may not be allowed inside at this time, they can still make purchases.

"When people aren't fully operational at their business, a lot of the lights aren't on. There's maybe not a lot of hustle and bustle happening. So it's hard for people to know, 'Are you open?' or 'Are you open in an alternative format?,' such as online, and so this is just a way to get the word out about that," explained Jennifer Olson with the Carbondale Chamber of Commerce.

Signage allows customers to know if a business does curbside, delivery, sells gift cards or keeps special hours.

The Chamber of Commerce is encouraging businesses to dress up their windows with Heart Cutouts and the "I Love Local" logos.
