PADUCAH, Ky. (WSIL) -- A second person has been arrested in connection to an investigation where authorities said two victims under the age of 12 were reported to have been sexually assaulted.
The McCracken County Sheriff's Office said in December of 2024, they were first notified by the Benton County Sheriff's Office in Tennessee on December 8, about an alleged sexual assault which was reported to have occurred at a home in McCracken County, but was reported to the sheriff's office in Tennessee.
The sheriff's office in McCracken County earlier said the information came from a father who reported his two daughters made statements they were sexually assaulted while visiting a home in McCracken County.
After an investigation by multiple agencies, authorities earlier accused 30-year-old Gregory Scheffer of sexually assaulting the two victims (under age 12) multiple times.
The McCracken County Sheriff's Office also stated the victims were subjected to extreme "punishments" along with the sexual abuse, according to their investigation. The sheriff's office also stated the children would tell Darian Scheffer of physical abuse happening and Darian was accused to leave the children with Gregory Scheffler for extended periods of time.
On December 13, Gregory Sheffer was outside a home in the 800-block of Washington Street in Paducah when officers went there to serve an arrest warrant, authorities said. He was then arrested and taken to the McCracken County Jail.
Authorities earlier said Gregory Scheffer was charged with two counts of Sodomy 1st Degree, one count each of Rape 1st Degree, Sexual Abuse 1st Degree, Criminal Abuse 1st Degree, and Incest. All charges were against a victim under 12 years of age, the sheriff's office stated.
On February 5, 2025, Darian Sheffer was arrested. The sheriff's office said she faces charges of three counts of Criminal Abuse 2nd Degree - Child 12 or Under.
