CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- Two people were taken into custody after a pursuit led to a crash in Cape Girardeau on Tuesday.

Cape Girardeau Police Department said at around 4 a.m., on August 13, a Cape officer saw a vehicle speeding along N. Kingshighway and Themis streets. Police said the vehicle was crossing over the center lines at times too.

The officer turned on his emergency lights and the vehicle didn't stop, police stated. Instead, the vehicle turned on Broadway and reportedly reached speeds up to 90 mph.

Police said the vehicle crashed near N. Water and Independence streets.

Cape Girardeau police then said the driver and a passenger of the crashed vehicle got out of the vehicle and ran away.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as a juvenile and the passenger was Jakari Beal, 20 of Cape Girardeau, police reported. Both were later caught.

Police said the vehicle was stolen from a nearby city and they reported six guns were found, two of which were reported stolen as well.

Online court records show Beal was charged with stealing a firearm and resisting arrest. More charges may be filed at a later time.
