HARRISBURG, Ill. (WSIL) A food pantry in Harrisburg received thousands of pounds of food thanks to a recent donation.

Heaven’s Kitchen Food Pantry received 12,900 pounds of food as part of a 38,700 pound Southern Illinois relief effort donation from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

“We are beyond grateful to be one of just three pantries selected in the region. This was a true team effort from Salt Lake City to Southern Illinois, a representative from Heaven’s Kitchen said in an online post.

Assisting in collecting and delivering the food was the City of Marion Illinois Street Department, who unloaded & stored the shipment. Fowler Heating & Cooling also helped by providing a truck and driver to deliver the food from Marion to Harrisburg. Additionally, Little Tractor & Equipment Co. helped with donating equipment and a driver to unload pallets. New Hope Christian Academy also offered temporary storage.

“We also want to thank Principal Blake Bradley for the incredible blessing prayed over the food & our volunteers! The Heaven’s Kitchen representative said.

The food will be distributed to families and individuals in need through Heaven’s Kitchen on Tuesdays from 5 p.m. - 6 p.m. at 21 W. Locust Street in Harrisburg.

“Thank you to every hand that made this possible! the representative added.
