SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WEVV) The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) confirmed six measles cases in Illinois so far in 2025, with two new cases in Southern Illinois over the weekend.

One new case in the Franklin-Williamson Bi-County area has led to an outbreak designation, according to the CDC. These cases are socially linked.

Another case from Southern Illinois potentially visited locations in Missouri, including the St. Louis Aquarium. More details are available through the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.

“The risk to the general public from measles remains low, said IDPH Director Dr. Sameer Vohra. He emphasized the importance of the MMR vaccine, which is 97% effective after two doses.

IDPH is working with local health departments to offer guidance, testing, and vaccination support. Mobile vaccination services have been initiated in areas with lower vaccination rates.
