HERRIN, Ill. (WSIL) -- The Herrin House of Hope is calling on the community for volunteers to help complete Phase 1 of their demolition project from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 26.
The ministry will be expanding their resources to the adjacent building. This building will serve as a clinic and will expand its existing food pantry to a full service food distribution center. The upstairs level will serve as a warming and cooling center, the first to be established in Williamson County.Â
John Steve, Executive Director of Herrin House of Hope says this has been a year-long project coming to fruition. Steve expresses his gratitude for the support of agencies such as The American Red Cross, Williamson County Emergency Management Services, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Salvation Army for their support in making this possible.Â
He emphasized all funds received are reinvested to improve their resources and directly address the community's needs. "We see the people from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. so we get to hear what the need is. And so, voices have been heard, funding has been provided and we want to step up to the plate," said Steve.Â
Steve added, "Big things are about to happen for our community. So, I'm excited for those that.. I'm excited for our community and I'm most excited for those that we serve."
Steve also noted the organization is celebrating its ongoing partnership with the Serve Illinois Commission. He says this physical expansion will allow them to broaden their services, further reaching their goal of fighting poverty while enabling people to become self-sufficient through the many services AmeriCorps offers in partnership with Herrin House of Hope.Â
The organization says they plan to have the expanded facility up and running by 2026.
