Alcohol is the leading contributing factor for deadly boating accidents in 2023, the Illinois State Fire Marshal says.
Illinois state officials urge people to not boat under the influence and to designate a sober and trained person to operate your boat or water craft.
The Illinois State Fire Marshal stated alcohol continued to be the leading known contributing factor in deadly boating accidents for last year, totaling 79 deaths across the nation or about 17 percent of total deaths.
State officials also urge anyone in a boat to wear a life jacket as well.
