HERRIN, Ill -- The Herrin Fire Department responded to a fire at a vacant residence on Monday.
They responded shortly before 4 p.m. on April 22nd. When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames showing from the home.
At the time of arrival, fire officials upgraded the call to a "general alarm", which calls in off duty personnel. The fire department stated on-duty firefighters made an aggressive interior attack and were able to quickly put out the flames. Additional crews were able to ventilate the roof and perform overhaul operations.
The fire is now under investigation by the State Fire Marshals Office.
Chief Shawn Priddy posted online, thanking the Marion Fire Department, as well as United Medical Response for their help with the response.Â
