Preliminary survey results suggest EF3 tornado of at least 165 mph winds hit Williamson County

MARION, Ill. (WSIL) -- Weather officials with the National Weather Service out of Paducah surveyed the damage of a tornado which created a path of destruction on May 16, in the southern portion of Williamson County.

The National Weather Service survey team reported preliminary findings of at least an EF3 tornado with winds of 165 mph.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office earlier said the tornado caused significant damage to a mile plus wide path from Grassy Road at Wolf Creek Road on the west side of the County and Saraville Road at Stonefort Road on the east side of the County.

This tornado is to blame for at least seven injuries in Williamson County.
