Storm-damaged Century School gym boards for sale; own a local keepsake

ULLIN, Ill. (WSIL) -- A local high school is selling pieces of its gym floor after recent storm damage led to the need for replacement. The gym floor at Century Schools, which holds sentimental value for many community members, was damaged in the storms on March 30.

The school began removing the damaged floor earlier this week and has offered the boards for sale at $1 per foot. The proceeds will help cover additional improvements to the gym which wouldn't be covered by insurance.

The boards are currently available on the west exterior side of the gym, with some also placed in a nearby dumpster. The school encourages interested individuals to help themselves, noting that the removal process will quicken next week if larger sections can be removed.

The sale operates on an honor system, with payments to be made at a drop-off box by the high school office. Buyers should exercise caution as nails have not been removed from the boards.
