Veterans arrive home from Honor Flight

MARION, Ill. (WSIL) -- It's time for the 14th Veterans Honor Flight of Southern Illinois. The event kicks off Tuesday, May 6, in the morning, as 91 veterans will meet at the Veterans Airport of Southern Illinois and take a flight to Washington D.C.

The veterans will fly free of charge to see some of our nation's most notable landmarks and monuments, which highlight their service.聽

As they return back home, they will be welcomed by members of the community with a welcome home party and ceremony. There will be plenty on hand showing support with patriotic gear and waving American Flags.

For those showing support to the veterans as they come home, there will be a festivity taking place on the grounds of the Veteran's Airport. It all kicks off at 5 p.m. On hand will be a Kids' Zone with inflatables, face painting, live music with Cody Galloway and Dave Simmons, seven food trucks and more.

There will also be a Welcome Home Ceremony which starts at 8:45 p.m.

Parking will be limited at the airport, however, there will be buses available to escort the public from Cornerstone and Sam's Club, starting at 5 p.m.
