BENTON, Ky. -- One person was shot by an on-duty deputy in Marshall County on Tuesday morning, causing non-life threatening injuries to the subject.

The Marshall County Sheriff's Office said the incident happened on January 9, at 4:30 a.m. when a deputy was checking on some suspicious activity on Harold King Drive in Benton.

During this time, the sheriff's office said a man pointed a gun at the deputy. The deputy then fired his gun which hit the male, causing non-life threatening injuries.

The male who was shot was then taken to Lourdes Hospital in Paducah.

The sheriff's office also said another person was taken into custody at the scene for first-degree burglary.

Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hilbrecht requested Kentucky State Police to investigate the incident.

Sheriff Hilbrecht said there is no ongoing threat to the community but requests prayers from the community for all who was involved in the incident.
