Local high schoolers help in sandbagging efforts to prepare for flooding

GCHS students spend the day preparing sandbags for anticipated flooding

GALLATIN COUNTY, Ill. (WSIL) â€� Rising flood levels are expected in the next few days across Southern Illinois. Several counties are now making preparations to reduce flooding impact.Ìý

In New Haven, over 25 Gallatin County High School students decided to grab shovels and help out their community.Ìý

On Monday, students were bussed to the area and filled dozens of sandbags.Ìý

The Ohio River in Shawneetown is expected to be affected by rising water levels in the next few days.Ìý

Currently the river is sitting at nearly 43 ft. and is expected to peak at around 53 ft. by Monday, April 14th.Ìý
