Dexter welcomes new renewable natural gas plant with ribbon cutting

DEXTER, Mo. (WSIL) -- Local and industry leaders welcomed a new renewable natural gas plant  in Dexter on Wednesday.

Archaea Energy (a BP subsidiary) and Republic Services held a ribbon cutting for their new plant called Lightning Renewables in Dexter on November 13. Lightning Renewables is a renewable natural gas plant which is located at Lemons East Landfill in Dexter at 15250 Old Bloomfield Road.

Archaea Energy explained the Lightning Renewables plant will be able to process up to 2,000 standard cubic feet of landfill per minute. This is then used to create gas to heat more than 8,000 homes per year, according to the EPA's Landfill Gas Energy Benefits Calculator.

The plant is expected to be online in the next couple of weeks.
