NASHVILLE, Ill. (WSIL) -- A fire prompted the evacuation of apartment residents in Nashville on Wednesday night.
First responders rushed to the Village Apartments in Nashville at the intersection of North Hoffman Street and East Legion Drive around 10:30 p.m. on April 23.
At least eight residents were transported via shuttle to safety, and others were picked up by family. Two individuals required medical evaluation by EMS.
Sheriff Ross Schultze emphasized the community's resilience during the incident.
"What happened tonight is a reminder of the strength of our community. Firefighters, EMTs, police, and dispatchers � most of them from right here in our county � answered the call without hesitation. We're incredibly proud of them, and grateful for their service. This is what community looks like," Schultze said.

The Red Cross is also helping those who need assistance.
The Illinois State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze.
