MASSAC COUNTY (WSIL) -- Illinois State Police is investigating a fatal crash responsible for killing a 4-year old girl.
It happened on the ramp between US-45 and Interstate 24 around 9:30 p.m. Saturday night.
The driver, Jose Coronel-Bautista (27), took the ramp off US-45 when the vehicle left the road way and overturned after an overcorrection.
He had three passengers in the vehicle at the time; one of those passengers being the 4-year old toddler.
The toddler was pronounced dead at the scene by the Massac County Coroner and, all other occupants, including a 27-year old and 17-year old, were transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Initial reports say Coronel-Bautista was the only occupant wearing a seatbelt at the the time of the crash. He was charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol and was jailed.
The Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction United (TCRU) is continuing the investigation.
