Book Store Damaged in Shots Fired Incident in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Carbondale Police responded to reports of shots fired on Friday in which they say a business was hit.

The city's police department alerted residents of the situation via  at noon on Friday, June 21. The post said the investigation was underway around Main and Springer Streets. 

No injuries were reported upon authorities' arrival, police informed News 3.

A member of News 3 arrived on the scene before police left. Officers said one bullet hit and damaged a book store along Main Street.

An employee with Confluence Books showed News 3 a broken window, stating the location of where the bullet hit. The employee also stated they will replace the broken window.

Officials say the shots came from a black male who stepped out of a dark vehicle and shot at another vehicle on West Main. 

As of 12:21 p.m., the police had left the area but say the matter is still being investigated. Anyone who may have information on the incident should call the police at 618-549-2121.
