Human remains found in 2023 identified as 30-year-old missing woman, investigation ongoing

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Human remains found in mid-2023 were recently identified as a 30-year-old woman from Poplar Bluff.

Butler County Coroner Jim Akers stated the human remains were found in the rural part of Butler County by a farmer in June of 2023. 

An investigation then started to identify the remains. The Butler County Major Case Squad was activated.

Eight months later, a positive identification was made through forensic labs and experts.

Akers said the remains are of who went missing in May of 2023.

Ross was born on November 3, 1992, and last contact with her was on May 12, 2023.

A statement shared with News 3 from Akers said there is a person of interest in this investigation. The person of interest was reportedly a boyfriend and is uncooperative at this time.
