FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ill. -- UPDATE: 4:26 p.m. -- Illinois State Police said one I-57 NB lane is still closed at this time as crews are still on scene.
ISP stated the driver had minor injuries and there were no fatalities.
UPDATE -- 1:00 p.m. -- All southbound lanes are reopen on I-57 after a gas spill on Friday morning. Northbound traffic has reopened to one lane.聽
The Franklin County Emergency Management Agency posted the latest update at 12:43 p.m. The alert said West Frankfort Chief Derek Sailliez deemed the situation "secure."
Crews are still on the scene to clean up the debris and vehicle from the crash. All but one lane on the northbound side remain closed to give crews the space to do so.聽
FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ill. -- One lane has reopened on I-57 in the Southbound direction. All lanes northbound remain closed.聽
According to the Franklin County Emergency Management Agency, the semi truck carried acetylene gas. It partially tipped over at the crash and spilled the substance across the highway.
As of 10:50 a.m., crews remained on the scene to continue cleaning the spill.聽
I-57 remains closed from Exit 65 in West Frankfort to Exit 71 in Benton. Yellowbanks Road also remains closed.聽
The agency says the spill does not pose an active threat to residents.聽
