WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (WSIL) � One man is dead after deputies responded to a forced entry call on Friday. Illinois State Police identified the man as 43-year-old Jesse Shelton of Marion.
Shelton is believed to be the suspect of Friday's officer-involved shooting.Â
The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a 911 call in reference to a forced entry at a home in the 23000 block of Drake Road on June 6, just before 10 a.m.
A female at the residence was reported to have confronted Shelton before he ran into the woods.
After searching the area, authorities said a K9 officer led them to a home on Pleasant Valley Road.
The sheriff’s office said Shelton broke into another home on Pleasant Valley Road. The sheriff’s office then said Shelton had a gun and directed it at deputies.
A deputy then shot Shelton and was later pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff’s office reported.
The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from ISP.
ISP is currently investigating the incident.Â
