Pedestrian critically injured in hit-and-run crash, one in custody, police report

HARRISBURG, Ill. (WSIL) -- UPDATE: Illinois State Police said the driver of the vehicle fled the scene and was later taken into custody. The investigation is ongoing.

ORIGINAL: Harrisburg police responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian crash early Tuesday morning on June 3, at 12:13 a.m. The incident was reported to have happened on Ford Street near Frank Leberman Drive.

Officers with the Harrisburg Police Department said they found a 61-year-old man with injuries at the scene. Police also said the vehicle involved in the incident fled the scene. 

The victim was taken to a trauma hospital and was reported to be critically injured.

The Illinois State Police Zone 8 Investigations and Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit took over the investigation. The Saline County Sheriff's Department, Harrisburg Fire Department, and Abbot EMS assisted at the scene.
