MARION (WSIL) -- On Monday, the Southern Illinois Miners held their media day. It was a chance to meet the team and actually see them work out.

The Miners open up the season on the road. They take on Lake Erie on Thursday. The team has played a few exhibition games, and the home opener is June 1, 2021. There are some familiar faces on the team.

Here's what to expect.

"We really have strong pitching," Miners Manager Mike Pinto said. "We have some guys in the rotation that give us a chance to get a win every night and we've got a bunch of experienced guys in the lineup and I think our fans know a lot of these guys, saw them in '19 or before that and I think they are going to be really excited with this team."

"I feel like we are ahead of the curve with everything, lot of guys have shown they are working hard in the offseason and it's definitely showing on the field kind of like we never missed a step, skipped a beat," Miners Right Fielder Nolan Earley said.

"We look pretty complete like all classifications of the team, the vets, the experienced guys and the rookies, so all looking solid," Miners infielder Craig Massey said. "I always say the best Frontier League teams have the best rookies because you have to have that depth."

The miners had a couple of special guests at practice on Monday.

Loren Gold the keyboardist for The Who and Ray Yslas, percussionist for Chicago. On Monday, these musicians were ballplayers.
