Watching the Severe Weather Threat Through Wednesday

Severe Weather

CARTERVILLE Ill. -- (WSIL) -- Were under a level 2 risk for severe weather this evening for the threat of damaging winds, hail and tornadoes. The difference with tonight's severe weather threat vs. tomorrows severe weather threat is that tonight we don't have a ton of forcing to get the thunderstorms going. So while the ingredients are there for severe weather to occur, if no storms are able to get lifted enough then we won't see those severe weather ingredients tapped into.

Tomorrow that changes significantly when we will almost have the exact opposite problem. We will have tons of forcing tomorrow and we will also have plenty of severe ingredients in place which means potentially multiple rounds of severe weather through the day tomorrow. The main timing looks to be between 12pm and 8pm tomorrow afternoon.

Initially there will be the chance for more scattered cells to develop from SW to NE from 12 to 5 PM these cells have the best chance to produce very large hail (2+ inches) and strong tornadoes. After those we should have a developing line of severe thunderstorms across Missouri that will try and sweep through the entire area with widespread damaging winds being the biggest threat with that line along with isolated tornadoes.

We don't say these things to scare anyone but the ingredients along with the lack of things that can stop storm formation on Wednesday will lead to widespread severe weather across our area. You need to have a plan in place along with a safe place ready for you to go incase a strong tornado does move near your location. Even outside of the tornado threat I am worried about the widespread damaging winds along the squall line that moves through. Make sure to have all your devices charged up just in case of extended power outages.

We will have the latest here at WSIL and on our website keeping you updated on the latest with the upcoming severe weather.
