CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) -- An 18-year-old was recently found guilty in relation to a shooting investigation in Carbondale from three months ago.
The Jackson County State's Attorney Joseph Cervantez, stated Justin Perteet-Lovelady, 18 of Carbondale, was found guilty of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm on September 21, 2024.
This was exactly three months after police responded to a shooting incident which took place in Carbondale on June 21, in the area of Springer Street and West Main Street.
Cervantez earlier detailed a video which was obtained by authorities, which shows a man wearing dark clothing and getting out of a white vehicle and fired several shots at another vehicle there on Main Street.
A nearby book store was damaged by a shot fired in this area as well, police on scene told News 3.
Perteet-Lovelady was arrested on June 24 in relation to this shooting investigation.
“Our local law enforcement officers did an outstanding job from the beginning to ensure a successful prosecution. Neighbors near the shooting all came together and stood-up against the violence. Gun violence will not be tolerated in this close-knit community," Cervantez stated.
Cervantez also said Perteet-Lovelady will soon be sentenced and will have to serve 85% of his sentence in the Illinois Department of Corrections with up to three years of mandatory supervised release.
