MURPHYSBORO, Ill. (WSIL) -- Early Saturday morning, the Jackson County Sheriff's Office said they responded to a disturbance involving two people who were stabbed near Business Highway 13 and Ava Road in rural Murphysboro.

Deputies said they found Matthew Dunmyer and Nico Harper, both injured, on a nearby porch.

The sheriff's office stated Dunmyer had a laceration on his neck and was bleeding severely, while Harper suffered a severe laceration on her hand.

Authorities provided medical aid until ambulances arrived, transporting the pair to an area hospital. The sheriff's office said another man, identified as Michael Alstat, was located at a different residence with minor injuries consistent with being involved in a fight.

The investigation revealed that Dunmyer, Harper, and Alstat were traveling together when a fight broke out, authorities stated.

Alstat was taken to the Jackson County Jail. According to online court records, Alstat faces an attempted murder charge and two counts of aggravated battery involving a deadly weapon.
