Funds being raised for family of 6-year-old who passed away in helium balloon accident

WABASH COUNTY, Ill. (WEVV) � We have learned the identity of a young child who died in an incident that happened in southern Illinois.

As we reported, the Wabash County Coroner's Office responded to a home in Mt. Carmel, where a child had died due to a "tragic accident" involving a helium balloon.

The coroner's office said preliminary findings revealed the boy's cause of death was consistent with suffocation due to a Mylar helium-filled balloon, but that additional testing and toxicology are pending to determine the final cause of death.

We have now learned the 6-year-old who passed away was Gunner Matthew Hyatt.

, Gunner he lived in Mount Carmel, Illinois, but was born in Evansville, Indiana. It says he passed away on the day of the incident on May 29, just after his birthday on May 21.
