CHICAGO, Ill. (WSIL) -- A John A. Logan Collage Cosmetology student recently finished second in a national competition in Chicago. She also finished third place against international competitors as well.
John A. Logan's Brandi Bailey recently was awarded second place in the National Nail Competition at the America's Beauty Show in Chicago. This information was shared by John A. Logan College in showcasing her accomplishments at the national competition.
Bailey is a mother of six and is currently a weekend manager at Urban Legend BBQ in Herrin. She decided to go to school to fulfill her passion in treating her customers with beautiful, stylish and artistic nails and hair after support with her family and friends.
"Being a mom has always been my number one job, but as my kids have gotten older, I became the person friends and family came to for hair and nail advice, so I decided it is time for me to do something for myself," Bailey said.
The America's Beauty Show brought in talent from across the globe who showcased their talents in a variety of beauty-related events. Bailey attended the competition with some of her fellow students and instructors at JALC’s Cosmetology Program.
“We are proud of Brandi to say the least, said Connie Robinson, Assistant Professor of Cosmetology at JALC. “The show is a great place for our students to network, learn new techniques, and gain confidence in their work.
Throughout her time at JALC, Bailey worked on and polished her skills which put her in a position to be successful. With guidance from Robinson and some other instructors, Bailey quickly discovered she had a hidden talent for nail artistry.
“Everyone in my family is good at art, and I just assumed it skipped me, until I realized my canvas is a fingernail, Bailey explained. “Painting nails relaxes me and allows me to tune everything out while I work, which has increased how much I enjoy the work. It’s my me time, while helping others.
Bailey encourages others to consider returning to school later in life to pursue their passions.
“If anyone says it is too hard to come back or start school later in life, just send them to me because you can find what you are good at and find a career you enjoy if you just take the chance, Bailey said.
Bailey will soon graduate from the JALC Cosmetology program and is excited to continue her success and pursue a career in the beauty industry.
