NWS confirms two EF-1 tornadoes hit Cape Girardeau County on Saturday

FRUITLAND, Mo. (WSIL) -- Two EF-1 tornadoes hit Cape Girardeau County on Saturday according to the National Weather Service in Paducah.

Weather officials stated one EF-1 tornado touched down north of Oak Ridge at 9:52 p.m. on June 7, and traveled 3.55 miles in five minutes with a max width of 50 yards and peak winds at 100 mph.

Here is the summary by the National Weather Service on the Oak Ridge tornado: 

An EF-1 tornado with peak winds of 100 mph damaged two pole barns, destroyed a large barn, and shifted a manufactured home several feet off its foundation along an west to east path parallel to County Road 510. Numerous trees also lost limbs or were uprooted along the path. Estimated maximum tornado width was 50 yards.

A second EF-1 tornado also touched down south of Fruitland at 10:23 p.m. on June 7, traveling 1.64 miles in two minutes with a max width of 125 yards with a peak wind of 107 mph.

Here is the summary by the National Weather Service on the Fruitland tornado:

An EF-1 tornado with estimated peak winds of 107 mph did considerable tree damage along a west to east path along State Highway Y east of Jackson, MO. Several trees were snapped or uprooted along the path in addition to numerous downed tree limbs. A couple structures were damaged by uprooted trees. An unfinished house near the intersection of Highways Y and W had several walls knocked down by the tornado. A few other structures suffered roof and siding damage as well. Estimated maximum tornado width was 125 yards.
